Located in the beautiful Kangaroo Valley on the south coast of New South Wales, Alcheringa is a small stud producing high-quality pedigree Belted Galloway cattle.
If you're just starting out with cattle, you've come to the right people. We concentrate on producing small to medium size animals with especially docile temperaments.
Belties are ideal cattle for smaller operations due to their outstanding ability to cope with all conditions, their easy handling and their natural calving capabilities.
As well, because of their second coat of hair in winter, they produce excellent lean beef with good marbling, fed on grass i.e. without grain in their diet.
And of course they're wonderful looking animals.
Because we are small area farmers ourselves, we understand the issues and challenges facing others in the same position. We can advise on animal selection, property preparation, husbandry and general farm management.
We can arrange introductory seminars, including hands-on experience for those new to farming or cattle handling. We can also provide on-going support while you gain experience and confidence.
Why not start out with young steers then progress to breeding as your confidence and skills increase? Alternatively stay with steers and turn them over regularly to a network of experienced breeders selling direct to restaurants and butchers.
Whatever you decide, you're certain to enjoy their quiet nature, their ability to keep your pasture under control and their stunning looks. And of course you're very welcome to visit us and see for yourselves (calving time Sep-Nov is especially good).
